HUDSON RIVER HAPPENINGS & INTERCLUB INFORMATION EXCHANGE
Compiled by the HRBYCA https://hrbyca.org
March 7, 2021 (v21.03.07)
Dear Members and Friends,
Warm weather will arrive, and we can all start thinking about the new 2021 boating season. Reciprocity among our clubs and with the Mohawk Hudson Council of Yacht Clubs is a great benefit we all can enjoy as we travel along the Hudson visiting our neighbors. The new on-line HRBYCA journal will also list each club's reciprocity statement and contact person, fuel locations, dock & dine, and more. Available soon on your smart phone or tablet this on-line journal offers all the information needed at your fingertips. Join us for our next Zoom meeting on March 30th.
The Hudson River Boat and Yacht Club Association will virtually kick off the 2021 season with Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Rick Nestler on Tuesday March 30, 2021 at 7pm. Hudson River Troubadour and schooner captain, Rick will perform a variety of songs written about the Hudson and other famous bodies of water. He will also provide us with a personal perspective of his friendship with Pete Seeger and sing. Pete affectionately called Rick, "One of the finest shantymen, Terror of the River, raffish Rick Nestler”.
Regards,
Jerry Silverman/HRBYCA President

IMPORTANT! BoatUS “Take Action” about NY State Canal Trust
Read more below
February 25, 2021
Dear New York BoatU.S Member:
A bill that could have a major negative consequence for the New York State Canal! System is moving quickly in Albany. Boaters need to speak up now to prevent this proposal from moving forward and ask Governor Andrew Cuomo to engage in an open, transparent process to ensure the future of this historic waterway, not only for the recreational boaters in New York and beyond, but for the communities along its length.

Some background:
The Erie Canal is a vital, historic link not only for New York boaters but those traveling to the Great Lakes and Canada. It serves as an important recreational connection and an economic engine for many communities along its banks.
BoatUS believes the Act, in creating a new '"New York State Canal System Revitalization Trust." would change the operating structure so to make management of the canal system even less transparent than it currently is, remove state accountability, and forever hinder the economic viability of the canal with weak funding sources.
It would give major authority to unelected administrative officials with no clear method for public input, replacing the current open and transparent Canal Recreationway Commission and its public oversight role. BoatUS believes that any major organizational overall of this historic waterway should not be done through a rushed legislative process with no opportunity for public debate.
Thank you for taking action and for being a BoatU.S. Member!
