Re: Safety Advisory Notice – East River, Upper Bay and Hudson River – Large Scale Jet Ski Event
NY –EAST RIVER - UPPER NY HARBOR – HUDSON RIVER - Mariners are
advised that a large scale Jet Ski event is scheduled to occur on June 29, 2019, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. This event may include over 400 jet skis and other recreational vessels. Participants will launch from various locations around the New York Harbor and Hudson River to gather south of Roosevelt Island in vicinity of the Pepsi Cola sign on the East River, Long Island City, NY. Jet Skis (personal watercraft) and recreational vessels are expected to depart from the East River at approximately 10:00 a.m., proceeding around Manhattan in vicinity of Battery Park before continuing north on the Hudson River, ending in vicinity of the Harlem River, Spuyten Duyvil, NY. (See figure on page 2). The event is projected to end by 1:00 p.m.
There are no waterway restrictions for this event and event participants are expected to follow standard navigation rules and not interfere with other marine traffic. An increased presence of law enforcement officials will be monitoring activities on the affected waterways. Mariners are encouraged to maintain awareness and report any unsafe conditions to local law enforcement or the Coast Guard on marine band radio channel 16 VHF-FM.
